Virtual desk for editing and translating early modern English drama

Note: CURRENTLY IN PROCESS

This "virtual desk" is an online tool showing two parallel columns on the page, with the left-hand column containing the "source text"  and the right-hand column offering an editing box that may reproduce either the "source text" entirely for the editor or translator to overwrite, or simply the speaker's names heading each speech for the editor or translator to key in her or his own text.

This is an open-access tool available for registered users. (For registration, please write to <hieronimo@uv.es>.

The "source text" has been digitally prepared by the HIERONIMO project as an TEI-XML file, using the editing platform of the EMOTHE collection/database developed by the ARTELOPE research group.

It is planned that users may upload TEI-XML files of other plays, as those available in EEBO-TCP or EarlyPrint (formerly Shakespeare His Contemporaries).

For the translation of the selected plays, translators can insert their equivalents for the speakers' names so that the speech headings will automatically appear translated on the right-hand box.  This feature is not available for plays not prepared by the HIERONIMO project.
